Purple Aura Meaning & Personality Traits

We all have an aura, an energetic ‘second skin’, that influences how we view and interact with the world. Each person’s aura is slightly different, depending on their life experience, beliefs, and daily routines.

The clarity and cohesiveness of your aura depends on how healthy you are, both physically but in state of mind. And the color of your aura will depend on the type of energy you need for the current phase of your life, and more broadly, your soul’s purpose.

In this post I want to explore what the meaning of a purple aura. How it relates to personality traits, purpose and career/romance.

Is purple a rare aura color?

The color purple has an immediate royal association. Since ancient times due to the cost of production, this was a color only worn by the higher classes and noble people. Naturally we make a similar connection when thinking about aura colors, this can create a bit of hierarchy.

Purple is definetly a bit less common in my experience reading auras for people over the last few years. The most common are earthy colors like red, orange and yellow. I also find brown fairly common, but this is in those who come for readings from me, so usually they’ve identified a blockage (it’s not representative).

Purple is in a second category in my experience, along with blues and some greens. A little less common but not as uncommon as the golds, blacks, silvers, whites.

Yes some colors are rarer, but there is no ‘better’ or ‘worse’ and these colors can change as we develop our energy. When taking in this information it’s best not to take the meaning of any one color as fact or desire one over another. We’re all on our own unique journeys.

What does a purple aura mean?

A person with a purple aura is someone who has a high level of spiritual awareness, usually at least one spiritual sense is keenly activated. High levels of intuition, discernment and spiritual knowledge come with this too.

This appearance doesn’t always signify a balanced or strong spiritual center. Sometimes a lot of energy accumulates around the third eye and crown chakras because those centers are overactive or overloaded.

This can happen when a person has brought too much awareness to those points through imbalanced practices and techniques.

Someone with a purple aura will often be described as being dreamy, having their heads in the clouds or being highly sensitive. This can work in their benefit for creativity and tapping into certain areas of spirituality like astrology or the akashic records. It can also work against them if too much energy is flowing through and they aren’t able to properly discern what it all means or put it into the right contexts.

Grounding is super important for those with a purple aura! Spending plenty of time in nature, in solitude and connecting with people who are at the very least open to exploring their spiritual side.

There can be a certain intensity to the purple aura personality.

With this aura you’re likely to have a psychic sense like clairvoyance or clairsentience active, which means being able to pick up on information about other people to quite a depth.

You’re someone who people (often strangers) come up to for advice. You’re someone who has a clear idea of where they are going in life, very creative, imaginative and in flow.

Purple auras tend to view themselves as ’empaths’. This is a term I no longer use but it may apply to you. You might also experience varying levels of telepathy (yes that exists).

Not in the sense of being able to read peoples’ minds as they do in the movies, but receiving hunches and intuitive insights that line up with what other people are thinking.

You have to set really strong boundaries as it comes to career and love life. It’s easy to give too much of yourself away, to the point you become unbalanced and drained. Purple auras are often synonymous with big open hearts.

Purple auras usually symbolize that some initiation has taken place. You’ve moved through large amounts of trauma, your experience often bringing you to depths that reflect how far you can raise your energy in the opposite direction.

I often see purple auras with specks of bluish light in them, or deep blue somewhere else. This often represents a strong connection to the stars, so astronomy and astrology. People with purple auras will often talk about having a psychic connection since early childhood, or receiving spiritual messages/insights very early.

Purple auras in relationships

One common relationship dynamic I see with those of this color is that there is often a mismatch between their level of spiritual development and their partners!

You might find that you get into a relationship and start questioning how compatible you truly are. The person may have many positive traits but aren’t always relating to the experiences you have.

You have to be very discerning with who you open your energy up to (we all do) but specifically making sure you are taking spiritual compatibility into account, not just the physical or emotional connection. Are they speaking your language?

Best careers for purple auras

Beside the obvious, becoming an astrologist, askashic records reader, yoga teacher or some sort of spiritual guide. Purple auras will also thrive in natural environments, so working with animals or with plants are great options too.

Purple auras are also great at planning and logistics – using their intuition to get a wide overview of a problem or idea and putting the right plan in place to get it worked out.

How to know what your aura color is

There are a few different ways you can figure out your aura color. The first is to try and perceive it yourself. If you are already experienced with meditation, different spiritual practices, you want to get yourself into a light trance state.

After meditating for around ten minutes and getting into a calm state, stand in front of a white or clear background. Focus on the very edges of your hands or arms, and zone out a little. No need to go cross-eyed, just center your awareness and move into an even calmer state.

You might start to see an outline around your body, or colors right away. If you don’t no need to worry, it can take a little time to get attuned to this way of seeing.

Hold no expectations and just allow words, sensations, images or a direct visual of the color come up. For me seeing auras is more of an internal experience, but I have also seen mine and other peoples’ colors directly.
