We all have an aura, kind of like a second skin, but rather than a physical object it is pure energy.
Auras act as filters for the energy that we allow into our life and the energy we put out into the world, and how ‘healthy’ our aura is depends on our daily practices, physical health and period of life we are in.
Healthier auras shine more brightly and clearly, and allow us to create positive experiences in our life and deal with the negative in a balanced and healthy way.
I read auras quite often for clients, and do a lot of work on my own. Here are some tips you can use to improve the health of and heal your own aura.
Signs of a damaged aura
If you’ve landed on this page then I’ll assume you’ve identified some blockage in your aura that you want to clear, however you might still be a little confused on why exactly you might need to do aura healing.
As I touched on in the introduction the aura is like a filter, it allows energy in and out through the body. When our aura is weak or damaged it becomes quite difficult to interact with our inner selves but also the world around us.
We can be hypersensitive to any negative experiences, and run away from or even sabotage positive experiences.
Here are some signs your aura needs healing:
- You often feel tired or lethargic
- You are constantly triggered or overwhelmed
- You feel energy ‘stuck’ in different parts of the body
- Your perception of reality isn’t as clear as you’d like
- You feel difficulty breaking bad habits
- You have constant negative self-talk
- You have loose boundaries
- You feel disconnected from your (true) self
This is not intended as medical advice, and many of these issues can arise from a variety of different sources. So do your own due diligence and make sure to consult your health care professional before making any major lifestyle changes.
Our aura becomes damaged mainly through trauma, whether physical or otherwise. A center in our body is pushed off balance, and another will overcompensate in an unhelpful or unhealthy way.
How to strengthen your aura

There are so many different ways to improve the strength of your aura and make your energy more coherent.
Meditation
The first step to a healthier aura is meditation…of course. I don’t think there is much in life that isn’t improved with a practice of meditation. The only way this energetic filter can be clear is if our own minds are clear too.
We don’t really know what type of energies we want to call in and release until we can sit and observe ourselves objectively.
Meditation doesn’t have to be a complicated process. Get into a quiet space and start observing your thoughts. When a thought comes into the mind, observe it and then let it go. Don’t worry if your mind won’t shut up to begin with, this is totally natural. Just keep at it and soon enough you’ll be able to experience more and more moments of pure awareness and calm.
Visualization
Another easy way for beginners to start healing their aura is through visualization & breathwork. These two practices together are a dream team.
I like to do a practice I call aura breathing, you could also call it color breathing. Get into a calm, meditative state, and ask for a color that best represents your energy at the moment.
Once you have received your answer, which can come as the literal word of the color or a visual in your mind’s eye, you want to visualize this color filling up your entire body. Breathe deeply and consistently as you do this, feel the energy flowing throughout.
Cleansing
Sunday’s are my designated ‘energy clearing’ days, and I find having this routine to be very helpful and grounding. You can adopt a similar routine on the day of your choice.
Smudging, taking a salt bath (with Himalayan or Epsom salts), and using crystals like quartz, amethyst or black tourmaline (caution with that one) are great ways to clear away negativity from your energy body.
Shadow work
Shadow work is going to make the biggest difference out of any other habits/practices in healing the aura. If you don’t already know, shadow work is bringing consciousness to what is unconscious in you.
Uncovering negative habits and beliefs, as well as positive traits that you haven’t properly appreciated and utilized.
You can do shadow work with specific journal prompts but it is much more general than that. Shadow work can be practiced through any activity you do with intention and awareness.
Driving to work, doing the dishes, having a conversation with a friend (or foe 😂) can all be great shadow work exercises. The key is to notice how open or closed your energy is in that dynamic and where you are triggered.
Triggers are gold, that reveal what you haven’t brought awareness to and integrated. They will also show you ways that you can heal patterns in yourself, and as a result, heal the aura.
Sound healing
Words are vibrations and sound heals.
I enjoy using solfeggio frequencies in my day to day life to work on different chakras/energy centers, which make up our auric body.

The 9 Solfeggio frequencies:
174 Hz – Comfort and Security
285 Hz – Healing and Rejuvenation
396 Hz – Liberating Guilt and Fear
417 Hz – Undoing Situations and Facilitating Change
528 Hz – Transformation and Miracles (DNA Repair)
639 Hz – Connecting/Relationships
741 Hz – Expression/Solutions
852 Hz – Returning to Spiritual Order
963 Hz – Intuitive Awakening
The frequencies as associated with some hefty benefits, I would take those with a heavy pinch of salt.
Personally I enjoy 528Hz, really brings me in a relaxed state that I can viscerally feel. 963Hz makes me feel a bit more elevated, like in a light trance. Play around with different frequencies and see what resonates with you.
Positive affirmations
I mentioned that words are vibrations, so it makes sense to move onto positive affirmations. We are always affirming something to ourselves, amongst the potential tens of thousands of thought we have a day.
The way you speak to yourself affects literally everything else in your life.
I had to a do a lot of work on my inner dialogue because it was so incredibly negative. This isn’t to say there is something wrong with being negative or thinking negatively, but there is a point where it can become all/most of what you do.
Shifting our inner speech to be more supportive, uplifting and positive makes us feel more open – makes our aura more open to the good.
If you are struggling with negative inner talk I recommend starting with shifting to more neutral thought patterns.
Rather than going from ‘I am a bad person’ to ‘I am a good person’ which can just feel like lying, switch to ‘I am a person’. This makes it a lot easier to shift to more positive statements once you feel it is time.
Connect to nature
Connecting to natural is an obvious way to improve the health of your aura. When we are in nature, we are protected and held by something bigger than ourselves – or any human.
We are electromagnetic in nature, most of us know on a deeper level that living in cities, staying indoors or sedentary is not healthy for us. We can literally feel our energy being drained or suck out in these places at time.
Make time to visit natural bodies of water, spend time amongst the trees and go bird watching or animal spotting in your local area. The energy we experience in nature doesn’t just leave us once we go back to our ‘boxes’ we can tap back into the freedom and peace we feel the more consistently we visit.
Creative expression
Energy wants to move, it wants to be expressed!
When we go through a trauma it creates a blockage in a specific (or many) areas of the aura. Over time this energy gets more and more dense. We’ll find ourselves expressing things from one chakra in an imbalanced way.
As an example, we might have grown up and had our voices quieted and dismissed.
The throat chakra then becomes a spot in the energy with very heavy and unstable energy. We then express in an angry, doubtful, fearful, anxious way. The feedback we get from this expression is inevitably negative, and this just reinforces the blockage there – a vicious cycle.
Creating in new way – which means doing things out of your comfort zone – is a great way to clear auric blockages.
Change your environment
This is perhaps the most difficult – changing your environment.
Sometimes your health, physical and/or energetic, is not your fault it is the environment you are in. I think there is only so much we can change by shifting our energy, sometimes we just need to be somewhere else.
If you are in an environment that is anxiety inducing, unhealthy, limiting in some way, and can make a move, I would highly recommend it!
I did a lot of energy work and saw a lot of progress in a very toxic and unhealthy environment when I got back on my spiritual path in 2018, but didn’t start to see my true potential until I was able to leave.
If you’d like to get an idea of your auric health, you can book a reading with me.
I love when clients come back after 6 months or so and can see the difference in their aura colors! I provide a little illustration, so you can see exactly what I do.
If you’d like to give viewing your own aura a shot, I wrote an article explaining how here.

Hey there, I’m Ashley. I hope that by sharing my experiences with deepening my intuition, I can help you find that ‘spark’. That magic we can all experience when our energy is aligned and we feel deeply supported by the Universe.
