What Do Body Vibrations Mean During Spiritual Awakening?

What Do Body Vibrations Mean During Spiritual Awakening?

The spiritual awakening journey brings with it numerous interesting sensory and visual experiences that can leave us feeling confused and unsure of what to do next.

One of the most common experiences during spiritual awakening or whilst meditating is feeling tingles, vibrations or buzzing in the body. The sense that you’re about to blast off into space like a rocket, or float out of your body altogether.

While this can definitely be confusing, it is a completely normal energetic symptom when we are raising our vibration; it’s a sign that we are starting to awaken spiritually.

In this article I want to break down why you’re experiencing body vibrations and what to do next!

What Vibrations Mean Spiritually

If you just want the cliff notes I won’t make you wait.

Shifts in awareness

The main reason we experience these bodily vibrations is due to a shift in awareness. Think of it this way: your physical body feels heavy and that is natural to you but your energy body feels light and buzzes slightly which is often new and unusual.

You’re simply becoming more aware of this energy body (sometimes called the astral or subtle body).

Your emotional and nervous system capacity is increasing

You are interpreting thoughts, emotions and things in a different way which brings about new movements internally. When we awaken we don’t just think a thought anymore, but perceive the energy underneath it. We also understand and feel our emotions a little differently too, there’s more nuance there.

Movement of energy through the body

Finally, these vibrations can signal the movement of more distinct energies such as kundalini through the body. Our chakras, energy system or nadis, are becoming purified and activated.

Common Types of Spiritual Body Vibrations

Whole Body Vibrations

This signals the awareness of your entire energy body (that’s the term I like to use). Your non-physical body which when activated gives you access to your psychic senses more deeply (they are active generally speaking just not developed).

We will often feel whole body vibration during deep relaxation or meditation. If this resonates for you, then you likely also receive intuitive messages this way too – through the entire body.

Buzzing or Electric Sensations

Electric sensations through the body tend to be related to the kundalini energy. This is a dormant energy located at the base of the spine, which awakens over time through yogic practice, meditation, mindfulness and purification of the body.

This is a huge topic I wouldn’t be able to cover with the respect it deserves here, but I have an article discussing different kundalini symptoms here if you’re interested.

It is also common to experience a high pitched buzzing that comes alongside vibration. This is connected to clairaudience (the spiritual sense of hearing). Often this signals the presence of a nearby guide or angel.

Pulsing or Waves of Energy

Feeling waves or pulses or energy often represent the cleansing of your energy system – a lot of these symptoms do overlap. A release of old programs, beliefs, and emotions.

Vibrations While Falling Asleep

A common time to experience vibration is just before sleep. This again signals the activation of our energy body, and can induce spontaneous astral projections or if upon waking even sleep paralysis.

These two experiences in particular bring up a lot of fear, and I completely understand why. My most intense and uncomfortable spiritual experiences have been during spontaneous out of body and sleep paralysis states.

However, it is important to remember that you are safe. Stay calm, breathe deeply if you can and pray if you need to.

Reassuring reminder

At first these sensations can be very intense, when I first started meditating and working with my chakras the vibrations I would experience felt like they would blast me out of my body!

However within a few weeks the pulses of energy got more and more manageable until they started to feel like quite natural. Our energy pathways are often very restricted at first.

Heavy emotions, limiting beliefs and fears can essentially clog the system up, and that needs to be cleared out before it runs smoothly.

Where You Might Feel Spiritual Vibrations in the Body

Where you sense vibrations can also influence their meaning too.

Vibrations in the Head or Crown

Vibrations in the head or crown area relate to the sixth and seventh chakras, the third eye and crown.

The third eye is related to our psychic vision and intuition. The crown chakra is related to our spiritual connection and relationship with the divine/the Universe/God. Vibrations signal that these energy centers are waking up and becoming more active.

Vibrations in the Chest or Heart Area

In the chest or heart these sensations can relate to emotional clearing. An awakening of the heart chakra, throat (ability to express) and lungs (which hold grief).

Vibrations in the Hands or Feet

The hands and feet contain minor chakras that often go unnoticed, but are just as important. Vibrations in the hands can signify an awakening of your creative or healing abilities. People with active hand chakras make great artists, massage therapists and reiki healers.

Vibrations Along the Spine

Energy moving up the spine is very closely related to the kundalini, which we discussed earlier.

Is It Normal to Feel Body Vibrations During Spiritual Awakening?

This is an incredibly common spiritual experience! Millions if not billions of people have been where you have. I think it’s always important to remember that we are not alone on this journey.

So many of us are doing these practices in our rooms alone, doing the healing work independently. Because the society or family environment we are in is not supportive of who we are in our entirety.

This is why grounding should be a priority. Have practices that bring you back down to Earth. You can quite literally walk barefoot on the ground and feel centered that way, have a conversation about your experiences with a supportive friend (on or offline) or visualize yourself being grounded if you can’t access a spot in nature easily0.

Could Body Vibrations Have a Physical Cause?

Yes, of course, it is always important to rule out physical causes when we are discussing spiritual phenomena. Sometimes the increased bodily awareness uncovers underlining health issues. If you have any doubts, please do seek out medical guidance.

We might be experiencing vibrations due to an increase in stress, fatigue, a disruption in our sleep schedule or anxiety.

FAQ

Q: What causes body vibrations during spiritual awakening?

A: There are a variety of causes, but the main ones are an increase in spiritual awareness, widening emotions and nervous system capacity, and the movement of energies like kundalini through the body.

Q: Why do I feel my body vibrating while meditating?

A: Meditation brings us to a relaxed space physically and allows us to be more receptive of what is going on spiritually, and in our energy or subtle bodies – which is why we feel these sensations.

Q: Are body vibrations related to kundalini awakening?

A: Not always! However most people who are going through kundalini rising do experience intense vibrations in the body, often what feels like electricity or heat moving up the spine.

Q: Why does my body vibrate when I lie down at night?

A: Similar to meditation, we are most relaxed at the brink of sleep which makes us more aware of spiritual phenomena. When tired we are also prone to sleep paralysis or spontaneous out of body experiences, which are often preceded by vibrations.

Q: Are spiritual vibrations dangerous?

A: Spiritual vibrations are not dangerous! They are a good sign our spiritual awareness is increasing and we are becoming more sensitive to subtle energy.

Q: How long do spiritual awakening vibrations last?

A: Usually for a few minutes, although on rare occasions longer. With a regular meditation practice these vibrations subside in intensity and duration as our energy pathways strengthen and get used to the flow of energy.
