You know the saying which goes ‘It’s not your responsibility to live up to other peoples’ expectations of you’.
Which is to say, you don’t have to go into the career your parents want you to. You don’t have to fit in to please a friend group. You don’t have to mould your personality to make a potential partner feel good.
We all have some responsibility towards each other, of course, to be kind and respectful when we haven’t been given reason to do otherwise. But we aren’t obligated to contort ourselves in order to make everyone else happy.
Well, that same sentiment applies to ourselves.
We don’t have to live up to the expectations we held of ourselves from yesterday, last week, last year. Again, not in the sense that we aren’t fulfilling our responsibilities, but that we allow ourselves to change. We leave a little space open in our plans to be surprised by what comes up – both on the path but also within us.
As an example, I’ve always seen myself as a writer, and in a lot of ways I’ve seen that into reality. But that identity, like any, has become rigid.
I made a few talking head videos recently, posted them, and was quite surprised at how much I enjoyed that form of expression – it wasn’t something I saw for myself.
We spend all our lives being told what to do or think, how to act or dress.
Often we get on the path and expect the Universe to do the exact same thing. To hold our hand, to infantalize us, to take our power away. We forget this is a co-creation.
We look for a path to appear in front of us; for the confirmation, the number sequence, wondering what’s taking it so long. Have we done something wrong? Do we have to push harder?
So often the Universe is just asking us to create – not to look, find, theorize or figure anything out. To just create; following the strongest impression in our hearts.
Sometimes the exact lesson we have to learn is to just express without blockage. In certain situations it wouldn’t make sense for the Universe to lay out a path there and then, when what we need to heal or grow is to blaze a trail. To not be confined in any way.
Sometimes when we ask that question ‘What’s taking it so long’ the Universe is responding ‘You have free rein. ‘What’s stopping you?’

Hey there, I’m Ashley. I hope that by sharing my experiences with deepening my intuition, I can help you find that ‘spark’. That magic we can all experience when our energy is aligned and we feel deeply supported by the Universe.
