How to Ask Your Intuition Yes or No Questions

Learning how your intuition work is a life-long journey, and because everyone’s intuition is slightly different and the way we interpret answers is too.

Having said that, there are common ways that we can receive and interpret messages, in order to make more informed decisions in our lives.

This is a question I get all the time in my 1-1 sessions with clients, how exactly do I ask for a yes or no answer from my intuition? How do I get a direct, easy to understand response? That is what I want to discuss in today’s blog post!

Intuition Vs Logic Vs Emotions

Before we dive in, I think it’s a good idea to set some groundwork.

So what exactly is intuition and why should be trust it? From my perspective intuition is information that comes from our spirit, you could also refer to this as your higher self. Our spirit unlike our human self is not guided by the ego.

The goal of our intuition is to lead us towards our soul purpose – the reason we incarnated this lifetime.

Any guidance it offers us will benefit ourselves and other in the long-term. Sometimes our intuition can make us uncomfortable exactly for this reason. It’s not always leading us to what we want, but always to what we need.

Logic on the other hand pulls from this physical experience and what we have learned on an intellectual level.

Logic is great for many tasks, practically speaking. A great scientist or mathematician gets nowhere without good logic. We need logic to keep us grounded and our lives in order.

Then there are emotions, which guide us based on past experiences, both positive and negative. Our emotions pull us in a direction that is comfortable and familiar, trying to recreate something we’ve felt before.

All are important in this life, all are necessary forms of navigation, but intuition should be the priority. Intuition guides our logic and emotions, so that we can make the best use of them!

How Intuition Speak to Us

There are several ways that intuition speaks to us that you want to be aware of as you ask your questions and receive responses.

The biggest question people have is how they can differentiate their intuition from fear or anxiety….and I want to give the honest answer. You are not always going to be able to tell. There are clear signs your intuition is speaking over emotion or logic, but it does vary depending on the situation.

What I’ve found to be consistent is that intuition brings peace. There is no fighting with intuition, it delivers a calm and clear message. Whether we listen is another thing.

Intuition also tends to feel expansive and clarifying. The hurried thoughts subside and emotions settle, somewhere deep inside you just know. I tend to experience intuition as a full body sensation of calm, but you can also feel more isolated sensations in the gut or heart area.

Asking Your Question

Asking your intuition a yes or no question is surprisingly difficult at first. The way you phrase the question is everything. Often we’ll do so in a way that just causes more confusion.

A question like ‘Should I commit to this job opportunity?’ will likely just fill you with anxiety or nothing distinguishable at all, and you will continue to be unsure of what to do.

I have found simply expecting a yes or no answer doesn’t really work. You have to ask in a way where you’re looking for direct resonance or dissonance.

Using this example of starting a new job, rather than asking a question straight up, instead make a statement!

Get into a meditation, calm the body and mind, and then state what it is you want input on as an action.

Example: I am working as a teacher.

I am living in Canada.

I am in a relationship with _____

Interpreting Responses

Your intuition is going to respond directly to that statement. You then have to figure out if the response means ‘yes’ or ‘no’ for you, as it varies ever so slightly for everyone.

In general yeses will feel light, they feel expansive and you remain in a state of calm. You want to be as calm as possible before stating your question, so that you can spot the shift immediately.

In general no’s feel restrictive, you will quite literally feel tension and heaviness in the body, and like someone is rushing you towards something.

Mistakes to avoid

I assume if you’re on this page you’ve had some difficulty getting the answer you want from your intuition, so I hope this reframe is helpful.

Of course, sometimes our intuition is just very direct and clear and will answer with a simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’ right away. I get these sorts of responses all the time. They are so simple in that way, you can’t really ignore them.

To know an answer really is from your intuition, you do want to check how smoothly it comes through.

Your intuition has nothing to prove to you – it’s not looking to comfort or impress you. And so, the answer will tend to be very straightforward and clear-cut.

Sometimes we’re getting a very simple answer that is more than sufficient, but our ego-mind is asking for more and more. At that point we’re not talking about a lack of intuition, but a lack of trust!

There are only so many signs and answers we can receive, before we just have to take action on the strongest impression.

Don’t be silly, but also don’t overthink yourself into oblivious. Sometimes the simple answer, the one that comes without any resistance or big appearance, is the right one.

In conclusion

When working with our gut feelings, instincts and intuition, we have to allow some space for making mistakes or interpreting something ‘wrong’.

Yes, we can be wrong about what our intuition is saying, we all have biases and experiences that shape the way we take in information.

More broadly, increasing our intuition doesn’t mean that we’ll be correct all of the time – and that isn’t the goal anyway. The goal is to create a loving and supportive relationship with our higher self.

When we want a yes or no question, we’re often trying to make a decision that has a lot riding on it. To take on that new job, proceed with that relationship, move countries.

It’s important to remain flexible even when a question does ask for a yes or no, and know that even if we are slightly off-base we can still trust ourselves to work with what we’ve got.

FAQ Section:

Q: Can intuition be wrong?

A: Our intuition is never wrong in the sense that the information we receive is always reliable.

However we can interpret our intuition incorrectly, it can become clouded by the ego, fear and anxiety. The more you practice tuning into your inner guidance the clearer your answers get.

Q: How long does it take to get answers?

A: Many times your intuition will answer instantly. On other occasions, if the message is more complex and requires more perspective, our higher self will deliver an answer in the form of an experience that may unfold over several days or even weeks. Patience is key!

Q: Can I ask multiple questions at once?

A: I recommend focusing on one question at a time for the most clarity.

Q: What if I don’t feel anything?

A: Calm your mind and try again later, or come back at another time when you feel more grounded.

Q: How do I know it’s intuition, not wishful thinking?

A: Intuition is calm and direct, no grand promises just realistic reflections of what you are capable of. While wishful thinking will often cause an emotional spiral; it won’t feel as assuring.
