Why Identity Shifting Is The Key To Manifestation

identity shifting manifestation

Today’s post is inspired by a recent experience I had of what I call ‘threshold shifting’. Experiences that demonstrate beautifully the connection between energy and the physical.

I was standing at a bus stop the other week just observing my environment and people around me, and suddenly felt an immediate shift in my energy – very reminiscent of an out of body experience.

I was no longer just observing the people around me but sharing a consciousness, feeling for a second how it was to be in their shoes quite viscerally.

Years back I may have leaned into this experience in an imbalanced way and came out of myself completely, but I brought awareness to my feet and remembered where I was grounded.

I felt this oneness energy flow through the body for a minute or so before I was back to ‘normal’.

These sorts of experiences take what we know to be true intellectually (we are all one) into direct experience.

We experience these vibe shifts when we take in spiritual information and then ask ourselves, does this resonate deeply? What qualities can I bring forth to actually match this teaching?

Embodying a new identity

As I’ve discussed in many previous posts & emails, a lot of the energy work I used to do brought me out of body. I would aim for lucid dreams, astral projection, third eye visions etc.

I would often get them, but over time this led me to be very disconnected from my own body. My discernment was messed up too because I could never quite pinpoint where an energy was coming from, even if I was receiving a lot of it.

Getting very grounded and embodied means that we receive ‘less spiritual experiences’ in terms of what our mind or ego perceives as such. Our progress can grow slower…but it will be more fruitful.

Slowness in our reality is so often the blessing we have asked for without realizing it.

It’s not about reaching a goal outside of yourself directly, it’s about shifting your identity. To be able to hold a blessing not just receive it.

So often when manifesting we receive exact what we asked for, just for it to be taken away just as quickly. Because we haven’t embodied an identity of having that thing organically; we cannot hold that energy in the body.

If there is a goal or energy you are looking to have, just ask yourself now what are you holding right in this moment?

What sensations are coming up where you are seated?

If you are looking to embody new sensations, a new identity, ask yourself everyday gently ‘How can I bring this in now?’

You may not be able to embody something completely and that’s ok!

Bring in the aspect of that identity that feels the most resonant, that you feel most capable of taking action towards too.

Identity shifting: understand your ‘core story’

The first and most important step when shifting identity is to deeply understand your ‘core story’.

A core story is something you repeat to yourself about who you are and what you are capable of consistently (whether it is true or false).

I’m going to lay everything on the table here so you know exactly what I am referring to.

Over the last few years I have come to know the core story that has kept me from being consistent and successful in the areas I wanted to be – no one wants to be around me.

This was something I repeated to myself in one way or another a lot through my teenage years. As an adult that story seemed to dissolve, but deeper down it just became subtler and more convoluted.

My parents were not around as a child, and then my foster parents were distant once we were transferred back to our birth parents (I know this is a rather unusual setup).

Throughout the years a lot of my inner dialogue has been built on that foundation. Eventhough I have healed a lot of that, naturally remnants of it remain.

Bring loving awareness to your shadow

The next step in identity shifting is to just bring awareness.

To identify what your core story is and notice every time it pops back up in day to day life.

Because my ‘core story’ got hidden for many years, I did not realize this was a program I was still running. I noticed it through reflecting on outbursts, arguments with friends or family, and unhealthy habits.

All of that icky, heavy stuff we often don’t want to look at. Aspects of our personality we are only really aware of on the peripheral.

So figure out what your main core story is. When you feel unsure, unsafe or unheard, what story are you telling yourself?

What do you assume other people are thinking about you? What do you assume their intentions are? How do you speak to yourself when you trip up or are undisciplined?

It’s difficult to resist the urge to change everything right away! To see the story coming up and immediately want to flip it to something else.

I don’t think that is always sustainable or even helpful, especially if this core story is only just coming to your awareness.

You need time to properly digest what you’re learning and accept things as they are.

Accept what has happened to get you here, and who you are in the present. Before you try to fix, change or heal anything.

Consciously shift your story & identity

The ‘final’ step is to start shifting the story you are telling yourself.

Really there is no final step, growth is more like a spiral than a straight line. We’re constantly coming back to old lessons to relearn and readjust. Some phases of our life bring about great progress and others a lot of backtracking.

A new story is really just a tool – not something to get too attached or rigid with. It is a reference point we can use to become receptive to and welcome in better opportunities.

But I think at first it can be really helpful to have a clear and well-defined ‘new’ story to tell yourself. It can take some practice to speak to and think of ourselves in a new way, and this often has to be structured before it becomes more natural.

So decide what your new story is. Not something that is complete fantasy or delusion, something you know (if you commit to yourself) you can actualize.
