40+ Spiritual Careers List for Heart-Centered Entrepreneurs

Despite the “love and light” chants you might have heard, life after a spiritual awakening isn’t easy – sometimes it gets a bit grisly. We come to a new understanding of who we are and it can be an overdue reckoning.

For a lot of people awakening is triggered by a major life event: heartbreak, grief, illness, the loss of a job or breakdown of a career. Spirituality in simple term is about moving beyond the ego, and in a lot of way our old life is just propping it up.

An awakening will often unroot us, so that we can be take a path we knew we should have years ago. It’s completely natural to feel a change of careers is necessary once the dust settles.

What is a spiritual career?

Before we get into the list (although feel free to skip ahead) I want to discuss what a ‘spiritual career’ even is because I think the term is kind of funny.

Really, there isn’t such a thing as a ‘spiritual career’. There is nothing more spiritual about being a tarot reader than there is about being a barista; what makes the difference is your intention. There are super in-tune and aware baristas, and egomaniac spiritual leaders.

I use the term to keep things simple and to guide those who don’t have a better way to describe this transitional period in their lives.

There is something to be said for wanting to get into a career that support your spiritual journey, incorporates the information you are learning and to connect with people who are interested in the same things.

In that sense some jobs are more overtly spiritually-focused than others. Just know if none of these fit on reflection…that’s probably why.

So, let’s get into the list!

Creative/content based spiritual careers

This is my area of specialty. I am a ‘spiritual’ writer on both this blog and social media, and through that I work with people energetically and doing tarot readings.

Energy work & healing careers

When people think of spiritual careers I feel this is what they are thinking of. The average person might imagine someone leading a circle, chanting and moving their hands in interesting ways.

Intuitive & Mediumship careers

I think all spiritual careers require a lot of energy (that is often underappreciated at that) but when we get to energy healing and intuitive guidance there is definetly a deeper level of energetic clarity and focused required – anytime you are working with clients really.

Writing about my spiritual experience is a lot lighter than working with clients 1-1. I love them both, but I know when I’m in a cooperative space it takes a lot more out of me. These are fields you should go into mindfully, knowing the commitment they ask for.

Spiritual coaching careers

There is a subset of people that come to me for intuitive readings that I identify as perfect for helping people through transitionary periods.

Often that means awakenings, heartbreaks, career changes etc Sometimes I like to describe this as being the ‘bridge’ for people. If that resonates with you, these would be great fields to research and get into!

As I mentioned in the introduction, a spiritual career is one that is intentional. If you are growing in spiritual awareness and use your job as a medium to connect with and uplift people based on what you have learned then you could say you have a ‘spiritual career’.

Sometimes this is the shift you are looking for, and other times you are being guided to more directly share your spiritual wisdom with others.

Signs your soul is calling for a career shift

I do not believe there is a distinct separation between the mundane and spiritual, they are one. So often we are looking for a sign from above that tells us clear as day what we need to hear…but deep down already know.

Often we do not receive this sign, but spirit speaks in a subtler manner. Through sudden boredom, restlessness, illness.

If you have been led here intuitively, if this blog post caught your eye unexpected, please do take that for what it is. Do not wait for something to go wrong or for chaos to ensue before you make a change. Trust your spirit.

Having said that, sometimes we are given a sign quite literally.

One of the clearer ways you know you are ready for a spiritual career is that you receive an abundance of signs and synchronicities.

You consistently turn up late to work even when completely organized and allowing plenty of time. You are constantly hearing about a specific spiritual modality, perhaps one you wasn’t even consciously aware of or researching. Finally, you are always meeting in-tune and aware people in the most ‘random’ of circumstances.
