Tarot readings have skyrocketed in popularity over the last few years thanks to platforms like Tik Tok & YouTube, and their promotion of short-form videos like Shorts.
Since lockdown I have noticed more and more of these types of videos appearing. A lot of people were looking for things to occupy their time.
Even if you aren’t in the spiritual space, you’ve probably seen a tarot reading or two come across your For You page. Throw in AI readings (some more obvious than others), and we have a very confusing situation on our hands.
In this post I want to explore how accurate these tarot readings are, and how to know if you are over-relying on them.
Are tarot readings accurate?
I have been doing tarot reading since 2020, almost 6 years now and have read hundreds of people in that time. I do believe tarot readings can be accurate, but there are a lot of variables!
No tarot reader is 100% accurate…if someone is telling you that, I recommend you run! If someone is making over the top claims or overselling their offering, be wary.
Humans make mistakes, yes our intuition is very reliable but that doesn’t mean we are always tuning into it accurately. We also all have different ways of interpreting things – this can be beneficial if you find a tarot reader who speaks in a way you find relatable and grounded, but it does leave room for error.
I would say my readings are about 70-90% accurate.
The people who come to me tend to be familiar with my perspective, how I operate and how I phrase things (so there is less misunderstanding).
You should always remain connected to your own intuition when receiving a reading, so that what resonates can be accepted and what doesn’t can be released.
Are AI tarot readings accurate?
AI tarot readings are a different ball-game completely. These rely on algorithms, and so will often be accurate in the same way that many videos on your For You page will be uniquely relatable to you.
But they can also be incredibly vague and inaccurate if any of the information they have on you is wrong, or if the intention is simply to reach as many people as possible.
I do not recommend AI tarot readings at all. The whole point of a reading is to have someone tap into your energy.
When we get a reading it isn’t just an exchange of information, there is some transformational quality to it if it is done right. To have someone hold space for you, listen to your worries and questions, consult their intuition/guides – it’s a completely different experience!
You can feel the shift in energy along with the answers they provide. Many times while doing readings I have clients notice energy moving in the body, we’ll tap into very specific problems together and there is a release. This usually involves a lot of laughing and sometimes crying.
Should you get a tarot reading on Tik Tok Live?
Whenever I see people giving readings on Tik Tok Live one after the other in quick succession I worry that the information they rely could get easily confused.
It is best to give/receive a tarot reading in a calm and quiet environment. Tik Tok Lives rarely provide this sort of space, there are a lot of things you cannot account for and it’s easy to get distracted.
When I use to do more than 2 readings a day, I would notice that my insights get less accurate. It took a lot energetically to separate each individual person and make sure I wasn’t pulling in stuff from one person to the next.
When I do readings I like to space them out and spend a good amount of time preparing and decompressing. Tik Tok Live reading can be accurate, but definetly keep these points in mind!
Is it possible to rely on tarot too much?
Yes, it is completely possible to rely too heavily on tarot readings!
I say this as someone who has something to ‘gain’ from you getting a tarot reading. You do not need multiple tarot readings about one topic, over the course of a few weeks or months, you do not ‘need’ tarot at all.
It is a tool that builds upon your own internal guidance system. It is meant to help clarify what you already know and provide clear guidance on how to put that into action.
All we need spiritually is our awareness, everything else simply adds useful context. We don’t need any tools, but they can direct our energy in a way that is helpful and more impactful.
Signs you are over-relying on tarot
- You overspend on readings
- You get tarot readings when you are in an overly-emotional state
- You regularly consult multiple readers on the same topic
- You are overly attached to the cards you receive
- You feel more confused after readings than before
- Readings provide emotional highs but don’t push you into action
Tarot should not act as a crutch mentally or emotionally. When you are truly being pulled to a reading, you will feel it quite clearly in the body, and there won’t be a lot of emotional tension surrounding it.
Here’s the thing, tarot readings don’t hold any specific power on their own! Tarot cards become powerful when we put our focus and intention on them. When you put tarot before your own intuition, you are forgetting this and transferring your inner power to something external and physical.
If you notice yourself relying too much on tarot readings, take a step back. Get into a meditation and clear the mind. Move the body and release excess tension. Vent to a friend!
Sometimes you are not looking for a solution, and that is ok. It’s very important to be tuned into your needs and honor them.
Tarot is a useful tool when we have processed a situation a bit but feel we need more clarity, then tarot is not a way to soothe our emotional distress, but consolidate what we already know.

Hey there, I’m Ashley. I hope that by sharing my experiences with deepening my intuition, I can help you find that ‘spark’. That magic we can all experience when our energy is aligned and we feel deeply supported by the Universe.
