How to stop self sabotaging & become your higher self

stop self sabotaging

In this letter I want to talk about how it feels to integrate the higher self. I will talk about some of the practical outcomes, but I really think higher self integration starts as a sensation.

Your higher self is what I call the ‘inner authority’.

Just as we all have an inner child, we have an inner authority – the part of us that speaks up when we do something against our nature, the part of us that knows better.

This is also the aspect of our energy responsible for attracting and repelling different opportunities and experiences. It co-creates with the Universe at a large.

The other day putting a new offering out into the world, I felt the presence of my lower self.

All of the fears, limits and doubts flooding to the surface. This is not a ‘bad’ or even ‘negative’ aspect of us.

I call it the lower self because it has a limited view of what we are capable of and can experience, but its main function is to protect us! All is has to reference is past experience.

Self sabotage is all about protecting ourselves. If we haven’t received a deep level of protection from others (our parents and authority figures), we can unconsciously attempt to give that to ourselves through self sabotage.

In the past it has taken days, weeks, even years to release that energy. This time I felt grounded again in just a few hours.

I was talking to myself differently and interacting with my environment more openly.

Integrating the higher self can feel as if a river of energy is flowing through us.

Our body feels looser, calmer and more centered.

Our thoughts quiet and slow as our body feels safer – we don’t need protecting.

Our higher self can guide and redirect as through a stern but loving voice.

So how do you start integrating the higher self and get back to a balanced state?

I want to reference this quote by Friedrich Nietzsche that I’ve sat with for a few days:

“Never trust a thought that occurs to you indoors”

never trust a thought that occurs indoors

It’s not that every thought we have indoors is useless or vice versa, but being in an open space often makes it easier to be in a flow state.

We can also ask ourselves about a topic in many different contexts and environments so that we can develop more insight around it.

So ask yourself more questions! Quite literally as you would with Google.

When you are in the supermarket, going for a walk, taking a break from work. Check in with yourself and make it a natural part of your day. Have a conversation with yourself – sounds weird but it works.

Another way to allow a flow state is to create more space. Be more creative with your time.

When you find yourself in certain thought loops, literally get up and do something else.

Move the body, go have a snack, read a book. Affirm in one way or another ‘My time is expansive’.

The mind will often trick us into thinking we have to figure something out right away – even when the deadline is strictly self-imposed. The higher self is not rushing us.

Kinda like how when you’re looking for something you’ve lost for twenty minutes, take a break, and come back and find it right away – sometimes you just need a reset.

There is a knack to taking action as your higher self too.

So often we get amazing insights and ideas; a goal forms in the mind. We know that it is right for us on a deeper level.

However when our first attempt doesn’t go as planned…we get side-tracked.

We believe that if everything doesn’t turn out perfect it isn’t really aligned. I see this conundrum play out a lot when doing 1-1s.

But the higher self is not interested in form or how things look, it works energetically.

We can come back to the same project or problem, with a different energy, and see a different result.

Practice telling yourself a different story about how something will go. Practice embodying a different energy when you approach it.

If you were already successful in a particular area, if you had proof things had worked before, would let one failure pull you into inaction? Or would you experiment and try something different?

When we take action as our higher self, we may not get what we want on an egoic or mental level, but opportunities do open up that ultimately feel fitting.
