How to Open Your Chakras with Sound

How to Open Your Chakras with Sound

There are so many ways to heal and open the chakras, from chants to yoga positions to using color. In this post I want to go over how to use the power of sound to heal and balance your seven chakras.

The word chakra in Sanskrit means “wheel”. When our wheels of energy can spin freely we feel uplifted, safe, and open to spiritual guidance. However when they are closed or blocked we become depressed, feel unsafe and are closed off from higher guidance.

The chakras are the energetic points along the body, although there are hundreds of these points we are most familiar with the seven main chakras that are located along the spine.

We use sound and music to shift our mindset in day to day life already (often without realizing it) and so it makes sense to use that to our advantage to create a space we can heal in.

Chakra Sound Healing

In the next sections we are going to cover each individual chakra and what sounds to use for each. All you will need to do is vocalize each chant sound, breathe deeply and focus your awareness on each specific chakra as you do so.

The difficult work comes when your focus makes you aware of the tension and emotions that are stuck in each chakra. As each chakra is linked to a set of physical organs and glands, when a chakra is blocked energetically there is a corresponding physical problem.

As you focus on each chakra and chant or listen to healing music, notice what thoughts, tension and emotions make themselves known. This is your chakra opening up and commencing healing.

You may feel a tight knot in a specific chakra, or a blockage, you may feel stiffness or tension. It’s common to experience a wave of repressed emotions, shaking, and discomfort. Whatever comes up meet it with awareness and allow everything to be released.

There’s not set time period to work on each chakra, although I recommend spending 2-5 minutes on each one per session depending on your time constraints. When a chakra starts to unblock you will feel lighter as if a weight has been lifted from your body. Continuously come back to areas that are still tense or heavy in further sessions until things flow.

Root Chakra

The root is our first chakra which is located at the base of the spine and associated with the color red. This chakra deals with our sense of safety, security and belonging in the physical world. The root is linked to the legs, bladder, colon and spine.

Solar Plexus Chakra

The solar plexus chakra is our third chakra which is located under the rib cage and associated with the color yellow. This chakra deals with our personal power and will. The solar plexus chakra is linked to the liver, stomach and gall bladder.

The throat chakra is our fifth chakra, located at our throat area and associated with the color blue. This chakra deals with our ability to communicate and express our truth. Blockages in the throat chakra can cause sore throat, and problems in the lungs and thyroid.

Third Eye Chakra

The third eye chakra is our sixth chakra which is located between the eyebrows and is associated with color indigo. This chakra is our center of imagination, dreaming and psychic sight. The third eye is commonly linked the physical pineal gland.

Crown Chakra

The crown chakra which is our seventh and final major chakra is located at the crow and associated with the color violet. The crown chakra deals with our connection to Source, higher consciousness and spiritual wisdom. This chakra is linked to the physical pituitary gland and brain.

Chakra Healing Music

chakra healing music

Chakra healing music works by facilitating a space where dense energies from our chakras can come to the surface to be released. Binaural beats are tuned to specific brainwave states which calm the mind and allow our awareness to focus on going inward.

When working with the chakras you want to be in the theta brainwave state which are the brainwaves we go into when relaxed. In this relaxed state we are able to release deeper tension and emotion.

Use the music as an anchor, focusing on the sounds until your mind is clear. Binaural beats usually take ten to fifteen minutes before you can feel them working.

Your body will feel slightly heavier and your mind will calm as your brainwaves synchronize to alpha. If you pay close attention you can feel as each chakra is targeted in turn.
